Microsoft has outlined the features we can expect to see in an imminent update to its Windows Phone 7 mobile OS. The company hinted that a big update would be coming to Windows Phone 7 in early 2011, bringing copy and paste functionality with it.

It seems that using copy and paste on the touchscreen handsets will be a breeze, and very similar to the interfaces on iOS and Android handsets. Simply tapping a word then sliding you finger will highlight text, then it’s as simple as hitting the copy icon, navigating to where you want to paste, then tapping ‘Paste’.

More than just copy and paste

Although not as “massive” as we’d hoped, Microsoft does have a couple more things up its sleeve for the eagerly-awaited update. The company claims to have “whittled down” the time apps and games take to start and resume, although details on how they’ve done this are scarce.

The Marketplace has also had a bit of work done, with the search function fine-tuned to show you results only from the section of the market you’ve searched from; so if you’re in Music and hit search, it will only show you results from the music catalogue.

The over the air update is scheduled for the frustratingly vague time of ‘soon’, although we wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it happened to coincide with Mobile World Congress 2011 next month.

The HTC 7 Pro – the latest Windows Phone 7 Handset – could be set for a UK release date in January.

The German O2 site has suggested that the eagerly awaited handset will be available early in 2011. It brings a QWERTY keyboard along with all the familiar offerings of the first raft of Windows Phone 7 handsets.Key manufacturer

It has been a key producer of handsets that support Microsoft’s operating systems, even before the software huge managed to bring itself bang up to date with its latest offering.

Microsoft products in the average enterprise IT department, Windows Phone 7 is likely to be a popular choice, especially with the addition of a QWERTY keyboard.

It will, however, need to show that it’s a worthy competitor to RIM’s BlackBerry, which has become the handset of choice of many businesses in the past five years.

The rumors state that not only will the Nokia N9 have a 4.2-inch OLED screen, but it will also be bringing a 1600mAh battery, and have a 1.2GHz processor.

Next-gen gaming

A dedicated gaming engine will also be able to display 190 polygons per second, which would put it way above any phone on the market at the moment, and well up there with some dedicated consoles.

Other piece from the substitute include a 12MP camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and 768MB of RAM – like we said, it’s possible there might be a small piece of truth, despite the sources not being revealed.

Back in September, we reported that the Blackberry Playbook could be launched for less than £200, but we didn’t quite believe it. However, it seems like could in fact be able to get your hands on the tablet for just £190.00.

Although not confirmed, sources have revealed what could be the official pricing for the Playbook:

8GB: $399 (£189.84)

16GB: $499 (£316.83)
32GB: $599 (£380.32)

If correct, this would put Blackberry at a great advantage against the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab, which has often been criticized for its big price tag.

However, we’re still not 100 percent influenced however, as it’s not as if Blackberry have skimped on specs. The Playbook will release a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 7 inch capacitive touchscreen, QNX OS, Adobe Flash 10.1 support, a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity and 1080p HD video playback. It’s still not confirmed whether the tablet will come prepared with 3G connectivity, and there’s also rumors of Blackberry pulling a whopping 64GB model out of the bag.

The Blackberry Playbook will be launching in the US in Q1 2011, with a UK release following in Q2.

Acer has shown its two Android-based tablets and a Windows 7 tablet for early 2011 release, coming into crowd by tablet market.

Price and names of the device is still undisclosed, which will compete against not only the Apple iPad. Acer’s 7-inch and 10.1-inch tablets will debut till next April. The manufacturer has also reported a 10.1-inch tablet running Windows 7.All three devices will feature Wi-Fi and 3G. During a Nov. 23, Acer executives display an Android-powered smartphone with a 4.8-inch touch-screen, and a 14-inch dual-screen laptop.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab has already sold 600,000 units within a month of release, according to new report, while millions of iPads have shipped since April.

While the iPad holds some 95.5 percent of the worldwide tablet market, according to current data, the general expectation is that flourish Android tablets will begin to seize a higher percentage in coming months.

“No one expected netbook sales to stay at the atmospheric levels of 2009 and in fact netbooks, as a percentage of U.S. consumer sales, have been very steady all year in the mid-teens,” Stephen Baker, an analyst with NPD Group, wrote in a Sept. 20 posting on the research firm’s official blog.

“We expect tablets to continue to pressure PCs as more vendors launch products (e.g., Dell Streak and Samsung Tab) and Apple expands its iPad distribution,” Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty wrote in a Sept. 17 research note. Her research note used data from NPD Group, showing overall U.S. notebook sales declining 4 percent year-over-year for 2010.

Whether the tablet market continues to grow cannibalization-free, or if it impacts sales of netbooks, Acer clearly intends to play a part in it.

Range has covered Google’s little green robot in. It’s still a phone worth checking out, but you’ll have to do some tidying up before it’s at its best.

Dreamy capacitive screen

The San Francisco looks pretty good for the price. It’s slim and easy to hold, with a rubbery case. The phone’s 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen is its best hardware feature, offering good contrast and brightness. It’s not quite as zippy and responsive as that of a more expensive smart phone with a faster processor, but it’s still very usable.

Websites are readable, and multi-touch support means zooming in and out is as easy as pinching your fingers together. The multi-touch functionality isn’t as smooth as it can be on a high-end phone, but it’s still decent, and a spectacular feature on a phone this cheap.

Orange-tinged Android

The best thing about the San Francisco is that Orange has slapped Android onto it. It runs version 2.1 of the operating system, which makes the San Francisco slightly behind the times, since a new 2.2 version is already out. The San Francisco has the power to take advantage of 2.2′s flagship feature, Flash Player 10.1 compatibility.

Conclusion

Orange is a big hug for bringing us a decent-looking, powerful Android phone with a capacitive touchscreen for under £100 on a pay as you go deal.

If you do fancy a cheaptastic phone with the latest version of Android, 2.2, you’ll have to wait until one of the networks picks up the Huawei Ideos, or go for a slightly pricier LG Optimus One.

Crude details of heavily anticipated Samsung Nexus Two have surfaced online. Gizmodo reported about a source who claimed to have got hands on to the next major smartphone Nexus Two smartphone. On Nov 8, all eyes would be set on this smartphone build Samsung and will run Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

Nexus Two will have a full touchscreen form factor with black, shiny glossy plastic with a curved back. It comes with front facing camera and the stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread might bring video chat feature built-in. Google engineers have been working to get video chat activated on Android.

Some of its sources have compiled a set of specifications that possibly would constitute as the Nexus Two s internal features. The list of specifications compiled for Nexus Two smartphone.

- Stock Google Android 2.3

The bad: The LG Optimus S slower processor means it doesn’t have Flash video in the browser. The camera doesn’t have HD video capture or an LED flash. Call quality was mixed.

The bottom line: The LG Optimus S is an affordable yet full-featured Android smartphone for Sprint, but we did wish the call quality was better.

Review:

Budget Android smartphones are on the rise, and you need look no further than the LG Optimus line of handsets to see that. We first saw the LG Optimus T, which was priced at $29.99 with a T-Mobile agreement, and then we found out you can get the black version for free under contract. The LG Optimus S for Sprint may not be quite so cheap, but it’s still pretty affordable. It has many of the same features as the Optimus T.

They ship them with Android 2.2, has Wi-Fi, 3G, and it can act as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. The Optimus S is also one of a few phones to support Sprint’s new Sprint ID Packs, which lets you customize the phone with certain personality profiles. The LG Optimus S is available for $49.99 with a new two-year contract from Sprint.

There is not much we can say about the Nokia E5, only that you should get one if your wish was for a simple but truly worthy handset. We got one unit, we took it for a ride, and found it simple and truly worthy.

The E5 weighs only 126 grams with battery included, and the predominant smooth matte plastic provides a gentle feel. A convex wave contour at the back complemented the solid build quality, and we assure you the price is just right for this one.

The Specification of Nokia E5 are:
